Laurel Run weekend includes kickball tournament
Laurel Run participants who want to support individuals with disabilities in another way are invited to return to Silver Creek the following day for a kickball tournament.
The second annual “One Small KICK” kickball tournament will be held Sunday, July 17, at Silver Creek Central School. The event is a fund-raiser to benefit The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research. Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) occurs in about one out of every 15,000 births. Common characteristics of PWS are small stature, weak muscles, insatiable hunger, obesity, and intellectual disability.
The One Small KICK tournament is being organized by Mike Matesevac, a Silver Creek High School alumnus now living Down South who returns to Chautauqua County every summer to participate in Laurel Run.
The cost to register for the kickball tournament is $200 per team, and teams can consist of 8 to 12 players. The entry fee is $20 for people who want to sign up as an individual and be placed on a team. Tournament organizers are offering a discount for folks from The Resource Center: anyone from TRC can register a team of eight to 16 players for $100, and individuals may register for $10.
To register, go to https://onesmallstep.fpwr.org/dw/walking/location/1659. Please note that once you click the “Register Now” link, you must select the “Adult – Commit to raise $40” option. But from there you can register an entire team or an individual. If you’re unable to play in the tournament but would like to make a donation to support PWS research, you may do so through the registration web site.
