16th annual Laurel Run takes place July 20 & 21
The planning for the 2012 Laurel Run is well under way. The 16th annual event will take place July 20 and 21.
Laurel Run was created by Wayne and Elaine Hotelling in honor of their oldest daughter, who has Down syndrome. Laurel Run celebrates the potential existing within all people who have disabilities, and each year the event attracts more and more people who support the Hotellings’ message that people with disabilities can accomplish great things, if given the chance.
Money raised through Laurel Run supports disability awareness and prevention efforts in Western New York. Proceeds also are used to provide employment and work training opportunities for adults with disabilities.
Laurel Run begins with a Jamestown-to-Dunkirk relay run on Day 1. The following day features an 8-kilometer run, 5k and 1k walks, children’s runs, and a motorcycle dice run. The signature event is Laurel’s Lap, in which anyone with a disability is invited to join Laurel for a lap around the track.
